Strange Paths and Artistic Freedom  -  (Instagram Musings #1)

The path we choose in life matters. You’ve got to make your way to the path that was intended for you. Even if you’re currently travelling on the wrong one, with the right vision it can lead you to where you’re supposed to be.

The mainstream routes of life never suited me. You’ve got to get in touch with what you truly want. I’ve always known that I never would achieve true success and happiness through mainstream routes. Especially when it came to success on my terms!

That’s why you have to take strange routes. The truth is, they only appear to be strange from the perspective of outsiders. To you, it should make perfect sense. If you know where you’re headed, strange non-mainstream routes can truly bring out your best.

I wrote a poem (The Mysterious Death of a Creator) when I hit an all-time low in my online creativity. I felt I was producing content just for the sake of trends. It was as if there wasn’t a place for pure self-expression as it wouldn’t be valued by the almighty algorithm. But who cares? Art isn’t about how many people like it, it’s about creating something you like. You make art for you. It may sound selfish, but by creating art selfishly you release your best work. That, in turn, leads to a bigger impact on others.

I view it in a similar vein to happiness. If you can make yourself happy first, then you can begin to make others happy. Selfishness actually isn’t that selfish when as a result you can help and bring value to others.

If you’re a creator, never suppress yourself for an audience or platform. It will drive you insane. Make your art pure and true, and eventually, it’ll serve even more than just you.

It’s sometimes easy to forget just how far you’ve come. The journey is hard and unforgettable, yet somehow through time, you lose touch. You detach yourself from your journey and concentrate on the now. Dismissing where you’ve come from and the obstacles you’ve faced is a big mistake. Reconnecting with struggle can be flipped into a positive outlook.

Taking back creative control is essential with artistic pursuits. Do not exist simply to create, exist to create a vision. Your own idea of art. Never defined, never limited. Free.

zach ascot, beach, seaside, waves, the roads we take decide our fate but journeys soon get forgotten this is not the death of a creator this is the birth of an artist
